Han Solo

Ok I know what you are saying right now after looking at my picture. "This doesn't look like Harrison Ford". Well you are correct. It's not. My inspiration for this "Han Solo" sumi ink painting is based on the Han Solo in Carbonite Action figure from 1985 ROTJ. I had this figure as a kid and really liked it. The figure doesn't look anything like Harrison Ford I'll admit, but I thought it would be a fun challenge. Enjoy.

Man of Steel

I liked "Man of Steel" but I didn't love it. I really really wanted to love it. That being said I'd still give it a solid 7/10. Definitely worth watching. I thought Russell Crowe was great and maybe even upstaged Henry Cavill as the new Superman. Don't get me wrong I thought Cavill was pretty good (better than Brandon Routh for sure). Speaking of Routh I have a lot more respect for him for all the hard work he put into preparing for his role in "Superman Returns". There is a great documentary on the "Superman Returns" DVD that's 3.5 hours long and shows all behind the scenes making of the movie. Too bad the real movie wasn't as interested as the making of. Anyways below is some "Man of Steel" art I've made t he past few days. Enjoy.

Damaged Goods Pinup by NO!

Here is my pinup contribution I did for my friend Jeremy Whittington's upcoming comic "Super M.o.d.e.l.s." that I titled "Damaged Goods". My understanding is the idea for the comic is about a group of hot female spy's who area also androids. From what I've seen so far from Jeremy it's looking pretty cool. You can check out more of Jeremy's art here http://jeremywhittington.deviantart.com/ . Below is my line art and final version that was hand painted with watercolor paints.

I had a lot of fun doing this commission. I've never drawn Captain Picard let alone Locutus before. Original hand drawn and painted with sumi ink wash on 11"x15" watercolor paper.

Art Thiberts Chrono Mechanics

Pal and fellow artist Art Thibert is having a Kickstarter for his creator owned comic "Chrono Mechanics". One of the things Art did to get some attention was hold a contest for any "Chrono Mechanics" team fan art. The winning piece get's to be published as a pinup in his book! If you get a chance to look at his characters http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1461073089/chrono-mechanics-potholes-in-the-cosmic-road?ref=category they are a bit cartoon-ish that works well for Art's style but not necessarily mine. So, I figured I was going to do it my style which is the semi-serious/ semi-realistic approach. Below are my individual hand painted pictures then the final team composite picture. Fingers crossed that I get selected to be in the book when it's all said and done. Enjoy.

ECCC recap

Well I wish I was all bubbly and gushing about how amazing of a time I had but sadly I didn't. I've been going to ECCC since year two and for the first time I felt the show had some issues, but this blog isn't going to be a rant about where they went wrong. It's every promoters dream to have a show that grows to be such as success as theirs. Believe me I know how hard that is. I am in the minority that I didn't have an amazing time and nobody cares what I truly think so let's move on.

The best part of the entire weekend was getting a chance to talk to many old and new friends. I am also optimistic that by meeting some new people that I may have gotten myself some potential work lined up. Fingers crossed that even one of them works out.

Below is some shots I took over the weekend. Cheers.

Emerald City Comic Con 2013

I am really excited for Emerald City CC coming up March 1st-3rd in Seattle, WA. Every year the con keeps getting bigger and better.

For the fourth straight year I will be in the Artist Alley table # U-09.

I will have a HUGE variety of new prints (see below), a new 32 page sketch book ("Instagrammys") and plenty of original art for sale while supplies last. I am completely psyched to be sitting in the same row as fellow artists Dan Panosian , Dave Johnson, Tim Sale and Mike Choi just to name a few. Good times all around I am sure.

All prints $10 each and the Sketch book is $15.

Hope to see you there.

Jane Foster by NO!

For my birthday I got an awesome set of four books "Art of Marvel Studios". It includes the production art of "Iron Man", "Iron Man 2", "Thor" and "Captain America". Each book is super dense and I've barely scratched the surface of each book. There is so much amazing reference material it's going to be a nice recourse to have on hand. Thumbing through the "Thor" book it has lots of production photo's. One of which was a great photo of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. Below is my step by step process. Hand drawn with pencil and inked with Copic Multiliner pens. Hand painted with Sumi ink wash, then digitally added the galaxy background. Enjoy.

Lord of the Rings

I am on a big "Lord of the Rings" / "The Hobbit" kick right now. I went to see the Hobbit on opening night and loved it and I've been watching the extended edition on Blu Ray for the first time this past weekend. I figured it was time to do some L.O.T.R. art.

Hand drawn with 2H pencil and Copic Multiliner pens, hand painted with Sumi ink wash. Digitally added the sepia tone and Middle Earth Map layers. Here are the steps.

Benji the Hunted

Here's my odd ball idea of a Star Wars movie mashup with Disney. For those of you that are old enough to remember Benji the dog. Yeah I went there. Enjoy.
