24 Hour comic Day 2014 Recap

This past Saturday October 5th was the nation wide event known as the 24 hour comic day. Originally created by artist Scott McCloud the idea is that you draw one comic page an hour for 24 straight hours so when you are all done you have a completed comic. This is my 5th year participating in this event that we hold locally here in Spokane, WA. The best I've ever done was 13 pages in 20 hour a couple years back and man did it take me a while to get back on track. It really messed me up sleep wise. After that I've slowed down to work on whatever I feel like doing on my own time no matter what the rules say. This year I drew for 12 hours from 10am till 10pm, but when I say draw I maybe only drew for 6 hours because I took breaks and had many friends come to visit with me which was cool.

This year I decided to do a Daryl Dixon comic based on the character as seen in the AMC show "The Walking Dead". My thought was it being a 6 page mini but I only got 4 pages kind of done. Each page would only a narration from Daryl while he was morning his brother Merle as seen in page 4. I am really please with how page 1 and page 4 turned out thus far. Will it ever get finished? I am not sure. I'd like to but it would most likely only be a digital release at best. So for now just enjoy the pretty pictures.

Batman Beyond by NO!

Here is my step by step process for my latest picture of "Batman Beyond". In case you missed it Batman Beyond was an animated series lasting three seasons (52 episodes) starting in 1999. Drawn in the classic Bruce Timm style it followed the story of a new Batman set in Gotham city of the future. It was a lot of fun and still to this day has a strong cult following. I for one think it would be a great live action movie. In fact I thought the WB missed an opportunity to set set this idea in motion at the end of "The Dark Knight Rises" when Gordon Joseph Levitt character revealed his first name was Robin instead it could have been Terry McGuinness who is the future Batman in Batman Beyond. Oh well. Let's get back to the art. Enjoy.

Sketch Covers by NO!

So for the last con I did I bought a handful of blank sketch covers so I could get sketches done on them. Well I got all caught up in the hoopla and got only one of the four covers done. Now I am sitting on them wondering what I should do with them. Well I figured I might as well give it a shot because I've never really tried doing one before. The first one I did was Detective Comics and I really really liked how Batman turned out on the cover, but not so much for Superman on the back. My intention was to make Superman hovering but I'll admit my weakest part of drawing is full figure people. I just have a problem with the sizing. The second sketch cover I chose to do was Hulk. I really liked how it turned out because I wanted to do a serious Hulk but not necessarily a traditional Hulk like everyone else does. Both covers have been colored
with Copic Markers.

Sorry I haven't posted in a bit. I've been busy enjoying my summer. The good news is that I have been finding a few minutes here and there to make some new art (when my room isn't a million degrees). Just in case you haven't visited my deviantART site in a while here is some of the paintings I've been working on. Enjoy.
